Convening Leaders Returns to Philadelphia

It’s been nearly two decades since PCMA’s Convening Leaders was last held in Philadelphia. In January 2026, it returns, and for those of us who work in live events every day, it’s really exciting!

This isn’t just another industry event. Convening Leaders is where meeting planners, producers, and partners come together to share how the work is getting done and how it’s changing.

When Convening Leaders was here in 2006, live event production looked very different.  Audio-visual setups were simpler, scenic was straightforward, video played a supporting role, and hybrid and streaming weren’t part of the conversation. That’s no longer the case.

Today, live events rely on fully integrated audio, video, lighting, and staging. Expectations are higher, the margin for error is smaller, and what used to stand out is now expected.

For planners and producers, that shift has changed how shows are built. It’s not just about ideas. It’s about execution and how well a team prepares, communicates, and delivers when it’s go time.

Why Convening Leaders Still Matters

Convening Leaders continues to be one of the few places where those conversations happen organically. Not just in sessions, but in the in-between moments whether it’s in the hallways, quick conversations over coffee, or sharing experiences from recent shows. That’s where people talk honestly about what’s working, what’s not, and what needs to improve.

For anyone responsible for producing events, those insights matter. They shape how the next show gets planned and executed.

Over the past few years, a lot of industry connection has happened online. Ideas get shared, challenges get discussed, and people learn from each other across markets. But there’s still value in being in the same room and being together.

Convening Leaders creates a space for that. For real conversations, direct feedback, and the kind of connection that turns into working relationships later on.

Philadelphia as a Host City

Philadelphia has changed since 2006. The Pennsylvania Convention Center has expanded and the surrounding area has grown. The city is more connected and easier to navigate for large-scale events.

For teams producing shows here, that matters. Logistics, access, and infrastructure all play a role in how smoothly a program runs. As a local production partner, it’s a chance to support events in a city that’s built for it.

Convening Leaders 2026 is a chance to take a clear look at where the industry stands now, and where it’s heading next.

The tools have changed, expectations have changed, the work itself has become more demanding. What hasn’t changed is what makes a show successful: preparation, clear communication, and a team that takes responsibility for the outcome.
